Who needs a visitor visa

You need to apply for a visa before you arrive in NZ if any of the following apply. You:

  • are not from a visa-waiver country
  • want to visit for more than 3 months (or 6 months if you’re from the UK)
  • have a criminal history
  • have health problems that could be a danger to public health or be expensive for NZ’s health services.

New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority

From 1st October, 2019 the New Zealand Government has introduced a new travel requirement for  visitors and transit passengers who are:

It is called the NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) and these travellers need to request theirs via the official mobile app or website. Approval can take up to 72 hours, so get yours before you go.

You do not need to get a NZeTA if you are required to get a visa to visit New Zealand, only those from visa waiver countries need to get the NZeTA.
